Campbell Island shag is an endemic black-and-white shag restricted to Campbell Island and its offshore stacks. Adults have glossy black upperparts, white underparts, pink feet and coloured facial skin; its isolation from other island shags makes range decisive.

It breeds around Campbell Island and forages in cold coastal water close to the island group. Birds dive for fish and marine invertebrates and nest colonially on cliffs and rocky slopes.

Campbell Island shag is At Risk — Naturally Uncommon (NZ Threat Classification). A single remote island range leaves the population exposed to storms and environmental change. Campbell Island expedition voyages provide the only regular viewing opportunity.
