The silvereye, or tauhou, is a small self-introduced songbird now widespread across New Zealand. A bright white eye-ring surrounds a dark eye; the head and back are olive-green, the throat is yellow-green and the flanks are warm buff.

It occurs from the far north to southern offshore islands in forest, scrub, farmland and towns. Silvereyes move in busy flocks outside the breeding season, taking insects, nectar and fruit and sometimes visiting garden feeders.

Silvereye is Not Threatened (NZ Threat Classification). Gardens, flowering trees and forest edges across the country provide frequent sightings.
