The goldstripe gecko is a nocturnal Taranaki gecko marked by pale gold longitudinal bands. Gold or cream stripes run from the head along a brown back and tail; its broad toe pads and mottled eyes distinguish it from striped skinks.

Natural populations are centred in Taranaki, with some translocated or isolated populations elsewhere in the lower North Island. It climbs vegetation at night for insects, nectar and fruit, hiding beneath bark or in dense plants by day.

Goldstripe gecko is At Risk — Declining (NZ Threat Classification). Night searches in suitable Taranaki reserves may reveal one, subject to site access rules.
