The Pacific gecko is a large nocturnal climber widespread in warm northern New Zealand. Grey or brown upperparts show irregular pale and dark blotches; broad toe pads, mottled eyes and a thick tail identify it as a gecko.

It occurs across Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and many northern offshore islands. It hunts insects at night on trunks, rock and buildings and also takes nectar and fruit.

Pacific gecko is Not Threatened (NZ Threat Classification). Night-time searches around northern forest edges and buildings often provide the best chance.
