The West Coast green gecko is an arboreal gecko of the South Island’s wet western forests. Bright green or grey-green upperparts are patterned with pale blotches or stripes; the underside is pale and the mouth interior is brightly coloured.

It occurs along the western South Island from north-west Nelson through Westland into parts of Fiordland. It moves slowly through foliage by day and feeds on insects, nectar and fruit.

West Coast green gecko is Threatened — Nationally Vulnerable (NZ Threat Classification). It is hard to detect in dense foliage; sunlit forest-edge shrubs within its range offer the best chance.
