The Marlborough green gecko is a foliage-dwelling species of the north-eastern South Island. Its green or olive back is marked with pale spots, blotches or stripes; the bright mouth lining and long prehensile tail identify it as a green gecko.
It occurs in Marlborough and adjoining northern Canterbury, from coastal scrub into inland valleys. It basks and hunts in shrubs by day, taking insects, nectar and fruit and giving birth to live young.
Marlborough green gecko is At Risk — Declining (NZ Threat Classification). Sunny native shrubs within Marlborough reserves may hold animals, but they are difficult to detect.
